02 — The Compass

A compass does not tell you where to go.
It gives you direction.
Design works the same way. Data, experience, technology, and AI can reveal possibilities. They can help us understand where we are. But they cannot decide where we should go next.
A compass does not remove uncertainty. It helps us move through it.
The direction may be visible.
The choice to follow it is still ours.

I chose the compass because it guides without commanding. After decades of making design decisions, that feels closer to reality than any map promising a single correct destination.
