VISUAL ESSAYS 06
06 — Borrow. Build. Become.
Nothing starts from zero.
Every creator inherits something: a language, a technique, a memory, a teacher, an image, a culture.
We borrow. Then experience and judgment transform what we borrowed.
We build.
Eventually, what we create may become something another person learns from.
Originality is not pretending nothing came before us.
It is turning what we inherit into something that could only have passed through us.
Then the cycle continues.
BEHIND THE SPREAD
Teaching made this especially clear to me. I learned from others, students learned from me, and I learned again from them. Creation is not a straight line. It is inheritance in motion.
